I have a confession
And some of you may rank this right up under blasphemy. So you might want to sit down.
I am not a mountain lover.
There. I said it. I'll pause as you get out your smelling salts and revive yourself.
OK, feeling better?
But seriously, I'm not. And the reaction I get from people when I share that with them - it IS as though I have just denied Christ or something! I cannot for the life of me figure out WHY I get such a strong reaction either!
*GASP* "You don't like MOUNTAINS????? Are you CRAZY????? But they are so beautiful! When I look at them I am just in awe of God's power and majesty! And I love to go up in the mountains - I just feel so much closer to God. HOW CAN YOU NOT LIKE MOUNTAINS????????" (You get the picture.)
But ya know, I just don't. I enjoy, for one thing, storms. I know storms do occur in SOME mountainous areas, but in the one I live in now? Nada. Oh, my kingdom for a clap of thunder, I tell ya!!! I like a good squall line - one you can watch on the radar for a couple hours before it finally hits your house. ![]()
I also enjoy sunsets. In the mountains the sun doesn't really set, it merely goes behind a mountain. LOL.
I like to be able to see for a long way.
I love tall grass, rippling in the wind on a wide open prairie.
I like a good, stiff breeze from time to time.
Yeah, mountains are pretty, and they can be fun to visit, but I just don't enjoy LIVING in them.
No one seems to understand any of this. They all consider me blasphemous (or close to it LOL) for not liking the mountains. But ya know what hit me? The same God who made the majestic mountains made the wide open prairies. I can see His power and awesomeness in the rippling grass just as well as in snow-capped peaks. He created it all. ![]()

I’m not big on moutains either. I like living is a decidedly non-moutainous area.

LOL, I like mountains because they are pretty and I like all the trees, etc. in those types of regions. However, I don’t like CLIMING them. I like to enjoy them from afar, or at the base where I can breathe thank you very much. ROFL
Storms? Hate them. LOL I’ll send ours to you next spring.

Your so funny! I’m with Tracy, I love to look at mountains, but from the bottom or the top. I just can’t handle the hike to the top.
And I absolutely LOVE a good thunderstorm…. the kind that shakes the floor of your house and the electricity goes off, and you get the earie flashes of startlingly bright light through the windows!! Mmmm, makes me long for Spring.
Right now I’m waiting on my big, huge snow storm. I want to be trapped indoors for days and play cards and board games, with ALL my kids (including dh) home, and eat junk food all day! LOL

I could not agree with you more! Give me land, lots of land underneath the starry sky and make it flat or rolling!

Heathen!!! LOL! Just kidding! I love the mountains, but I also love the ocean. There also has to be flat land, but also trees. I just don’t think I could live anywhere where there wasn’t variety in the terrain.

You know, I think it all depends on where you consider home to be. I grew up in the Appalachian Mountains, and I currently live in the Appalachian and Blue Ridge Mountains. The mountains are home to me — and not mountains like in Colorado . . . flat, flat, flat, big mountain. But rolling hills and little valleys and hollows and lose your cell-phone service pretty often — in the mountains.
I enjoy visiting the coast, and I’m willing to move to Florida, but I do love my home among the hills (as one of my favorite songs declares).

I enjoy variety as well. I lived my first 10 years in Nebraska, and there is a a beauty to it that a lot of people don’t bother to look for. I’ve lived in Florida as well, and while I love the beach the land has been greatly ruined by all the people that have moved there. I currently live in Tennesee, and really enjoy the flat mountains, hills, and trees. Now if we could add an ocean (with requisite beaches) it’d be just perfect!

After living in North Dakota for 3 years I have to say I don’t exactly enjoy the wide open prairies- especially in the winter. I haven’t exactly lived in a mountainous region, but where I’m originally from it is hilly, woodsy and beautiful- right on Lake Superior. I prefer that over the prairies, even over living down on the Gulf Coast…but someday I want to move back to a prairie or a mountain. I love to move and see different areas- like you said- the beauty in it all.

Merry Christmas, Keer. I hope you are feeling well!
Thank you for being so faithful to pray for Melissa Snow. I was over to their site yesterday, and just felt so sad. I have been praying for ALL of them steadily.

Hey — I think I agree with you. We visited the mountains this summer. NICE — but when we got back home to our OAK trees and green grass and the corn field across the road. Ahhh… comfortable. Ü
I think I’ll add your blog to my google page, if you don’t mind.
