Moms for Modesty
I know that I'm not the only mom who is tired of digging through all the "hoochie-wear" to find something acceptable for her daughter to wear. It is even worse now that my oldest is wearing size 7 dresses and is officially in "big girl" sizes. In most stores (even Sears!), the big girls department is the "Hoochie Mama" department. I loathe shopping for her because it just disgusts me.
Unfortunately even "Christian" clothing manufacturers don't get it. Exhibit A:
I've seen girls wearing these (and they ain't LOOSE T-shirts either), and I think, "OK, y'all just DON'T GET IT." ![]()
So I hereby join with the other Moms for Modesty mommies and agree wholeheartedly with their Mission Statement!

*Amen*

I’m a mom of four boys, but I’m in total agreement with this ‘movement’. I know that if I had a daughter, I’d never allow her to wear some of the clothes that are being made for young girls these days. It’s an absolute shame that the designers and retailers don’t realize that they’re making our children the potential targets of pedophiles. I hope that they see all these blogs with this message on it and start making some changes.

And the swimsuits - my daughter is size 9/10 - it was awful seeing what is being worn!

I wholeheartedly agree! When my daughter was in public school - starting Kindergarten - we had trouble finding school clothes for her because we had to sort through all the “skanky” stuff. I found it sad beyond words that our society “needs” sexy-looking clothes in a children’s size 5!!! (And yes, we saw girls at school wearing that stuff. I guess their parents thought it was cute). This is disturbing on so many levels. Childhood should be protected and cherished.

I TOTALLY AGREE! I’ve decided to just bite the bullet, spend the money, and get Rachel something decent from online sources like Lands Ends, etc. It costs more, but it’s good quality and at least I can stand it. LOL I don’t even take her shopping because she LIKES that stuff. She doesn’t understand why it’s not appropriate when it looks so cute on the hangers.

I’ve had to be careful with my boys’ clothes too. I bought a long-sleeved T-shirt once for my oldest, and after I got it home, I discovered that there were skulls and crossbones all in the pattern on the front. UGH!!!!! Not quite “hoochie-wear,” but inappropriate on an 8yo boy nonetheless!!!

Hey Keer,
You sent me a note with a question awhile back. We were on vacation, and somehow, I looked at it, closed it…meaning to ask Jeff…but can’t find it now. If you still are wondering…ask again, okay?
Sorry to be such a dolt.

My oldest daughter (not quite 7) loves these things as well. One time we were waiting to get haircuts when a teen girl walked in the salon. I cringed when I saw her because her clothes were so tight, and there wasn’t much to them - she literally looked as if she had walked off a street corner. My daughter leaned over to me and whispered “Mom, can I tell her she’s pretty?” I was moritified! Since then I have tried to talk with my children about what’s appropriate and what’s not. We don’t allow them to dress like this, but when we are out in the world they see it everywhere.

Yep, I have similar problems with my son also, but I just stick to the “basics” LOL It’s kinda boring, but he doesn’t care much and it’s easier.

This is why I am so glad my daughter is very small and petite. She is 6 1/2 and wears size 4 (5 with adjustable waist in pants since her legs are long in relation to the rest of her body). She can still wear toddler clothes as small as size 2 shirts. I am not looking forward to when she reaches the “big girl” section. Even some of the little girl clothes are awful, but at least most of them are okay.

We saw a girl in a restaurant that was very large up top and her tight t-shirt said, “Got God?” How stupid!
I have 2 boys and 2 girls and I am worried for each gender. The girls because I want them to dress and act appropriately and the boys because I want them to think and act appropriately. The girls are going to have to be choosey about what they wear. And the boys are going to have to be careful about what and who they look at.
I have a 15 year old niece and she is reminded by her mother over and over not to wear sleazy clothing, but it’s like water off a duck’s back. She is so preoccupied with herself that she cannot get the concept that men/boys either look at her lustfully, or they have to avert their eyes. She has straw for brains.

HOT Modesty—that shirt is really something. wow.
I remember years ago I had a friend with a maybe three or four year old daughter. She had gotten a hair cut for her daughter, and the mom commented to me that she loved her daughter’s new look because it was “cute and sexy.” Just the fact that that conversation sticks in my mind probably 9 years later tells the story on how amazed I was. A sexy three year old….oh. my.

Another mom feeling thankful for my boys and their boring tshirts and shorts!

I’m there. How do I join?
I just hate hate hate it when I can’t clothe my 6 and 3 (can you believe it!???) year old girlies decently. I have to purchase clothes that are too big just because they are modest. Yes they can wear them longer, but still. I want my children to look and dress like children, not like teens or adults. Let other’s say it’s cute, I say No thanks.
