I’ve been on the fence about Wal-Mart
But I think they have just pushed me over to their neighbor's yard.
National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce Announces Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. Membership
The National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC) announced today a partnership with Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. as part of the company’s ongoing commitment to advancing diversity among all of its associate, supplier and customer bases. This partnership will include executive representation on the NGLCC’s Corporate Advisory Council (CAC) and sponsorship of the organization’s 2006 events and initiatives.

In addition, Wal-Mart will assist the NGLCC in developing, expanding and promoting corporate diversity business development and procurement opportunities by sponsoring some of its programs including two of the organization’s conferences. Last month, NGLCC recognized the company as the newest corporate member of the Chamber at the NGLCC’s International Business and Leadership Conference in Montreal.
An interesting thing that Chautona pointed out: This organization is the one announcing this membership. Not Wal-Mart. In fact, I looked at 3 different Wal-Mart websites and could find NOTHING about this. Not even on their diversity pages. Hmmmmmm. Is that the odor of fish I smell?????
Chewymom, I think I'm joining you!

Fulfillment as a Woman
Molly has written a thought-proking post. Not sure what to think about it. All I know is that right or wrong, I have felt (and still feel) the exact. Same. Way.
Another birthday boy!!!
C-boy is 8 years old today. Because of him, I have learned about/experienced a lot of things.
- If the line on the pregnancy test is "barely there" and you have to hold it up to the light at a certain angle to see it...it's still positive.
- Sometimes even a blood pregnancy test can come back "inconclusive."

- Midwifery is a wonderful option when it comes to prenatal care and childbirth.
- Birth center births can be nice. (I do have to say I still like hospital births since I don't have to turn around and care for anyone 3 hours after birth!)
- Pushing before you feel the urge to push (even though you're fully dialated) is VERY, VERY HARD.
- Pushing out a 15" head is very, very hard as well.

- Delivering on your side is hard too.
- It IS possible to love your second child just as much as your first.
- It IS possible to nurse a baby, even if the first go-around was a total flop.
- Huggies diapers do the best (though not perfect) job at containing blow-out poops that shoot up the back.
- Some babies actually need haircuts (or at least a trim) at 5 months.
- Pervasive Developmental Delay (and all related disorders) is very complex.
- Blue's Clues can be a wonderful tool when you're trying to get your son to point things out in his environment.
- Not all "stims" are bad - like the stim of playing with Momma's hair.

- Some kids actually grow out of a "diagnosis."

- Some kids have an innate sense of body placement in space and can do flips and jumps and other acrobatic feats with no training or practice.
- Yet some kids can barely walk and chew gum at the same time.
- It's OK to "delay" kindergarten a year when you have a boy with a summer birthday, especially if he is somewhat on the immature side as it is.
- And it's OK if he still ends up a year ahead in math.
- Boys love sound effects.
- Legos rule.
- Especially if they are Star Wars Legos.
- It's possible to be a great speller and a not-so-good reader LOL.
- Telling jokes is a learned thing.
- But at the same time, it's possible to be HILARIOUS and not be able to tell a joke to save your life.
We had a good day today. C wanted Sonic for lunch and Papa John's pizza for supper. Sounds good to me!
He picked out a monkey cake for his birthday (he LOVES monkeys). Here it is:
I am very blessed. Very blessed indeed!!!

Yesterday I was asking the kids what they wanted to be when they grew up. C's answer? "I want to be a TV man."
I said, "Oh, OK, do you want to be an actor, or do you want to be a newsman?"
"I want to do a cooking show or an artist show or show really old stuff to people."
