A new version of Homeschool Tracker Plus is available!
I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE this recordkeeping program! I use it almost daily, and it is such a help!!!
And check out what one of the new features is:

An assignment grid!!! Previously it printed out as a list, which was OK, but the grid will be so handy!!!
ETA: (See this post for more about why I love Homeschool Tracker!)
A new article about the Pearls
Parenting guru is revered, reviled (Hat Tip: Laurie)
Y'all know I'm not a Pearl fan, but this article is most definitely biased. It's informative and interesting, but biased. (And i found some blatantly inaccurate information as well.) So look out.
However,
That's how Lynn Paddock, a Johnston County mother accused of beating her children with plastic plumbing supply line and suffocating the youngest, learned of Pearl's child-training methods, according to her attorney Michael Reece.
When this story first broke, I was under the impression that she beat her children with PVC pipe, which the Pearl supporters railed about, saying that that is NOT what Pearl advised. I remember when I read To Train Up a Child, I couldn't figure out just what "plumbing line" was. I kept thinking it was PVC pipe. I asked my husband recently what "plumbling line" was. He said PVC pipe as well. As it turns out, it's something like the supply line to an ice maker for a refrigerator. Apparently that is what Lynn Paddock was using after all (or so it seems). Who knows? All I know is that I could totally understand PVC pipe because that's what I thought he was talking about. As Ann shared, clarification is sorely needed.

Our silly weathermen
I can pretty much count on our weathermen being wrong, and today was no exception. Supposedly storms this afternoon. I was doubtful because it just doesn't storm here, but hey, that's OK. It's sunny and about 75 degrees right now (4:30 pm).
I would have gladly taken either...I love storms and have lots of outgrown clothes to put away. But since it's so beautiful, dh and I spread some layers of peat moss, gardening soil, and compost on a row of our garden. I got some "Amy's Humble Musings-style watermelons" planted, and once I'm done nursing I'll plant something else. We've had some trouble with our indoor-started veggies - can't find the balance between too much sun and not enough. But we may get something from them yet. I planted onions and leaf lettuce a few days ago. I got nothing from them last year, but I think I may have planted them too deep. We'll see!
Our next-door neighbors are having a garage sale, so we went over there. Check out my find for $20:

(sorry about the goofy colors - I took the picture in the garage where the lighting is BAD LOL! It's a dark blue color.)
It looks soooooo good!!! The lady said it's her husband's favorite chair, but they got new furniture, and this didn't match. Our current recliners are sooooo sad, so I've been on the lookout for a new one. THANKS GOD!!!
)S got a great-looking Cabbage Patch Doll for $1, and I picked up some shirts for the boys. Yay!
Well, S is done nursing, so I guess I'd better get to planting some more seeds....
Another interesting search string
Just got a hit from someone looking for "michael pearl heretic."
As I said, I wonder just what is going on in their lives to cause them to search for certain things....
How to find how people find you :-)
I've had several people ask me how I know what search strings people have used to find my blog.
I have a sitemeter. It tracks the visitors to this site and also how the last 200 (I think it's 200 anyway) people got to my site. If someone comes directly here it will say "direct referrer," if they come from someone else's blog it will list that URL, and if they got here via a search engine, it will have the URL of the search, which includes the search string in it. Super easy (and interesting too)!
What Advanced Degree Should I Get?
You Should Get a PhD in Science (like chemistry, math, or engineering)
You're both smart and innovative when it comes to ideas.
Maybe you'll find a cure for cancer - or develop the latest underground drug.
Assorted things from the kids
A couple days ago, G was standing over S as dh changed her diaper. S started asking for gum. Wanna know why? G had just brushed his teeth with minty toothpaste, and she could smell his breath. THE GIRL WILL BE 19 MONTHS OLD ON THURSDAY!!! She shouldn't be able to do that yet!!!
C has been doing a mini-unit about cowboys in his English lessons. Today he had to dictate a story about cowboys. He said that they have "different voices." When I asked him what he meant, he said, "You know, like Grandaddy and Grandma." He was talking about their drawls.
My Jesus
Which Jesus do you follow?
Which Jesus do you serve?
If Ephesians says to imitate Christ
Then why do you look so much like the world?Cause my Jesus bled and died
He spent His time with thieves and liars
He loved the poor and accosted the arrogant
So which one do you want to be?Blessed are the poor in spirit
Or do we pray to be blessed with the wealth of this land
Blessed are they that hunger and thirst for righteousness
Or do we ache for another taste of this world of shifting sandCause my Jesus bled and died for my sins
He spent His time with thieves and sluts and liars
He loved the poor and accosted the rich
So which one do you want to be?Who is this that you follow
This picture of the American dream
If Jesus was here would you walk right by on the other side or fall down and worship at His holy feetPretty blue eyes and curly brown hair and a clear complexion
Is how you see Him as He dies for Your sins
But the Word says He was battered and scarred
Or did you miss that part
Sometimes I doubt we'd recognize HimCause my Jesus bled and died
He spent His time with thieves and the least of these
He loved the poor and accosted the comfortable
So which one do you want to be?Cause my Jesus would never be accepted in my church
The blood and dirt on His feet would stain the carpet
But He reaches for the hurting and despised the proud
I think He'd prefer Beale St. to the stained glass crowd
And I know that He can hear me if I cry out loudI want to be like my Jesus!
I want to be like my Jesus! Not a posterchild for American prosperity, but like my Jesus
You see I'm tired of living for success and popularity
I want to be like my Jesus but I'm not sure what that means to be like You Jesus
Cause You said to live like You, love like You but then You died for me
Can I be like You Jesus?
I want to be like my Jesusby Todd Agnew
Another birthday!
This time it's my Hunka-Hunka-Burnin'-Love.
I adore him too. Hee hee.
Funny search string
The vast majority of hits to my blog from Google or some other search engine are due to Debi Pearl, Created To Be His Help Meet, or some other sort of Biblical womanhood issue ("are women to teach doctrine" and "can a woman Biblically cut her hair" are some recent ones). But someone came upon my blog with this search string recently:
Jesus would say what about exemptions on w-4
Sometimes I wonder just what is going on in the lives of people who search for some of this stuff!
