Created To Be His Help Meet - Chapter 8
This chapter I actually somewhat enjoyed. I think it's because it was based on observation rather than Mrs. Pearl's interpretation of what God's Word says. I always find it interesting how people tend to fall into different "categories."
I DO wish she had left out the part about God in her first paragraph, however.
It seems that God made each male to express one side of his triad nature. No single man completely expresses the well-rounded image of God.
It seems that she is saying that if you combine those 3 types of men, you come up with what God is like. Genesis 1:27 says "So God created man in His own image, in the image and likeness of God He created him; male and female He created them." In order to come up with what God is like (His image), we need a perfect man AND a perfect woman.
But that's just a minor point and I know it's not the essence of the chapter.
My dh is a Mr. Steady with heavy Mr. Visionary undertones. He has enough Mr. Steady to frustrate the Mr. Visionary in him, and enough Mr. Visionary to frustrate the Mr. Steady in him LOL!!!
I can't really speak about how "accurate" her synopsis and advice are when it comes to Mr. Command, since I am not married to one.
But I can say that MUCH of what she said regarding Mr. Steady and Mr. Visionary were helpful and insightful for me personally. And since this information is based solely on observation, we have the freedom to leave what doesn't apply to us, since it's not based on the Word of God (or what she says the Word of God says).

I love your comments on the book!
I am really enjoying the book, and your comments are very helpful. I found a link to your blog and was told you didn’t like the book, but that isn’t true, at least to me!
It is very nice to hear your feedback as I tend to be such a follower…
Looking forward to reading your comments of the next chapters!

That is so frustrating!!!! But from what I can tell, if anyone says any one bad thing about the Pearls or their writings, then he/she is labeled as “not liking” the Pearls or their writings. *sigh*
THANK YOU for coming over and seeing for yourself what I’m saying.
There ARE some good things in the book, but there is just as much bad, and the book is DEFINITELY not applicable to every woman in every situation.

I thought this chapter wasn’t all that flattering to the Mr. Visionary or Mr. Command Man. It probably is just best that I’m married to Mr. Steady.(smile!)
My DH didn’t agree with these characterizations, btw…he seemed to think it didn’t allow for God to work and refine individual men. He also thought, as do I, that a man of any personality should recognize his strengths and weaknesses, and rely on the Lord to help round him out in those areas of weakness.
It is my thought that each man should try to reflect his Heavenly Father as fully as possible, not to give a “flat,” one dimensional picture.
Love ya, baby!

I agree that all men (and women!) should try to be as Christlike as possible. I think what Mrs. Pearl is trying to say is that all men have some sort of natural “bent.” (And I’m sure she’d never stoop to admitting a “personality type,” which is really all that these are!!! Too psychobabbly, I’m sure.
)
There definitely is room for growth in them all as well. My dh has been struggling with the whole personality type lately because many times the behaviors of the different types are a result of immaturity. But I think the important thing to remember is that these are what their tendencies might be, but as they grow in the Lord, they might be more even-keel.
My dh used to have a lot more Mr. Visionary in him. And since I had only read “submit submit submit” books, we got into a bunch of trouble.
I think my dh is much less Mr. Visionary now - he has been scared off from following his dreams!
And really to be quite honest, I personally favor the personality types that Meyers-Briggs puts forth (I think it’s them anyway) - they discuss 16 different types rather than just 3. (But of course if there were more than 3 then Mrs. Pearl wouldn’t have been able to claim that these 3 are all parts of God’s triad nature. *big wink* )

Just to be sure I went back to look at the link again.
Either it has been changed or I missed it the first time, but it says you do a good job of talking about the good and the bad of the book.
Thought you’d want to know…

I think I said something about chapter 11, but this is the chapter I meant…my husband doesn’t fit into any of these categories. I couldn’t help but wonder what her basis for this assertion was. Not that it particularly matters, but scripture doesn’t make such a delineation, and it is an abstraction at best…my personal opinion of the main faults of the entire book. Take something and try to apply it where it doesn’t necessarily fit and call it the word of God.
I suppose you could say my husband is the controlling one, because he desires to be in leadership and does not deal well with any hint of someone questioning him. He takes it very personal like a personal attack. Or maybe he is the visionary because he is full of ideas and plans and thoughts for the way things should be done and changes that should be made. Or perhaps mister steady because he is very indecisive. Sorry, only put the negatives there…but I can’t remember what the positive sides were anymore. They all apply to him. The chapter made no sense to me personally. It seemed a stretch.
